Keep an eye out for iguanas, hummingbirds, and the cheeky little sugar thieves (bananaquits) that love a sweet snack. You’ll spot bright green whiptail lizards zipping around, iguanas sunbathing, pelicans diving, and maybe even a hermit crab crossing the road like it owns the place.

Head north and you’ll find Aruba’s more rugged, dramatic side — full of wind-sculpted landscapes, crashing waves, and some of the island’s most adventurous spots. Much of this area is part of Arikok National Park, which covers nearly 20% of the island.
Inside the park, you’ll discover:
The Natural Pool (Conchi) – a remote rock pool surrounded by volcanic stone, perfect for a refreshing swim (but only when the sea is calm — it can be dangerous when rough).
The Natural Bridge, Aruba’s most famous collapsed formation is still worth a visit, and a smaller bridge nearby remains intact. Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, remnants of Aruba’s gold rush days, with dramatic ocean backdrops and plenty of photo opportunites.
The northern coastline is wild, windy, and beautiful, but it’s not for swimming — the waves are strong and there are no lifeguards. Still, it’s a must-see for anyone who loves a good view, off-road adventures, or a bit of history mixed with nature.
You’ll need a 4x4 to reach some spots (like the Natural Pool), or you can book a jeep or ATV tour for the full experience.
(It is not recommended to take your hire car)
